When the conference ends on June 10th, NCSC organizers invite you to extend the fun by going boating, making a pilgrimage or discovering other great sights in and around the Twin Cities with fellow NCSC attendees. Take a couple of extra vacation days and enjoy more of this beautiful Midwest region while relaxing in the sun with new friends.
Known as the state of more than 10,000 Lakes, Minnesota offers many outdoor activities.
NCSC Minnesota core team member Anne-Marie Klobe helped organize the volunteer-led Post-Conference Events planned for June 10-13, and she put together these fascinating facts about some of the event locations.
On Sunday, visit Lake Calhoun, Minneapolis’s largest lake, which is popular for canoeing, kayaking and windsurfing. Hop in a boat with fellow NCSC attendees, or if you prefer, take advantage of the paths which circle the lake for walking, running and biking.
Linked to Lake Calhoun is Lake Harriet, which is near the Lyndale Park Rose Gardens, the second oldest public rose garden in the U.S. The Gardens showcase 3,000 plants in 100 different varieties.
Or, enjoy a pontoon ride around another nearby lake, Minnetonka, whose name taken from the Dakota phrase, Minn-ni-tanka, means “Big Water.” The 14,528-acre lake is the ninth largest in the state. Dinner at Lord Fletcher’s on the lakeshore will round out the day for the trip.

y to relax and enjoy stunning scenery on Monday is by taking a day-long River Cruise down the St. Croix River, east of Minneapolis-St. Paul. A popular attraction for more than 110 years, this cruise takes you past scenic bluffs as you drift down the river separating Minnesota and Wisconsin. It concludes with dinner and wine tasting at the Dancing Dragonfly.

On Monday make an all-day pilgrimage to the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe located outside La Crosse, Wis., a three-hour drive from the Twin Cities. Founded by Cardinal Raymond Burke in 2008, the Shrine draws many pilgrims to its beautiful church, grounds and facilities. A relic of St. Barnabas will be available for veneration during the pilgrimage.
